Happy Fourth!

Although our typical 4th of July celebrations are tempered by our efforts to stop the spread of Covid-19, let us all still be ever mindful of the sacrifices of those who gave so much of themselves to ensure the freedom of this great nation. As has been said so many times before, freedom does not come freely.

There are several Stand Downs fast approaching and we are still working diligently to make sure that each of our nation’s brave heroes and their dependents receive our essential goods. There is still plenty of time to donate for these events. For those who live in the DFW area, we provide residential curbside pickup service. Please call our office to make arrangements. If you live outside of the DFW area and would like to donate handcrafted goods, we do accept donations via parcel post. You can also donate monetarily to our cause through our website at thrivevets.org.

Please stay safe and have a happy Independence Day!

Scarves Needed & Curbside Pickup

Happy Friday to all of our wonderful crafters, supporters, veterans, et al! Thank you all so much for your awesome support during these difficult times. We are working tirelessly with our Community Partners to find the best way forward through the crisis at hand. T.H.R.I.V.E. Association remains vigilant in its mission to ensure that our veterans and their dependents receive our essential hand-crafted goods.

Our organization is currently gearing up to serve several upcoming Stand Downs and we greatly appreciate all of the generous donations that we have received. However, there is still a ways to go to meet the anticipated demand. Our goal for the upcoming Stand Downs is to have as many scarves as there are hats. It is important to us that each veteran and dependent is provided a complete set rather than having to chose between the two much-needed items. As the numbers stand currently, there is a need for more scarves. There are several amazing free scarf patterns available on yarnspirations.com, ravelry.com, and garnstudio.com if you would like inspiration.

For our volunteers who live in the Metroplex, T.H.R.I.V.E. Association will continue our policy of residential curbside pickup of donations until the danger of Covid-19 has passed. If you have donations that you would like to turn in, please contact our office by phone at (469) 427-9654, or send an email to thriveassociation@thrivevets.org to arrange for a pickup time and date. Mr. Torrey Mirow is normally in charge of those pickups and he will call/text you to keep you updated about arrival time, etc. Additionally, please let us know if you need any yarn or other materials to complete projects for our veterans and their dependents. These materials will be put in a sealed bag with a “check out” slip enclosed and exchanged at the residential curbside location.

Our staff is continuing to monitor the situation across the United States very closely. We know that these are trying times for everyone – especially the homeless veteran population that we serve, who were already incredibly vulnerable prior to the pandemic. We will continue to strictly observe the guidelines provided by the Center for Disease Control as well as those issued by the numerous municipalities that we aid.

Memorial Day 2020

Let us never forget those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

Although we are amidst a crisis and thus cannot honor our fallen heroes as we have done in years past, please keep them in your thoughts. This is the land of the free because it is the home of those brave men and women.

T.H.R.I.V.E. Association Update Amid the Quarantine

We know that this is a difficult time for everyone across our great nation. Quarantine can be tough, not just for our wonderful volunteers and staff, but also for the vulnerable communities that we serve. Although we are living in difficult and uncertain times right now, T.H.R.I.V.E. Association continues to strive to meet the needs of the homeless veterans and their dependents across the United States.

Although quarantine has changed a great deal of our daily lives, T.H.R.I.V.E. Association is still going strong and collecting donations to be distributed to the veterans and their dependents via the Veterans’ Administration. If you are located in the DFW area and have any donations for T.H.R.I.V.E. Association and/or need more yarn, we would be happy to do curbside pick-up and/or drop-off additional yarn. Please call our office at (469) 427-9654 to arrange a time and location. For those located outside of the DFW area, we are still accepting donations via post as well as monetary donations through our website.

We hope to be able to knit together with our crafting groups soon. Until then, we wish you and your loved ones safety and well-being. We will continue to keep you updated and provide free patterns and information in the interim. Please feel free to contact us with any questions that you have.

Please Stay Safe

Due to the rising health concerns for our volunteers, staff, and the community which we serve, T.H.R.I.V.E. Association will be putting ALL of our knitting groups on hold until further notice. We ask that you stay safe and follow what our global health experts have advised – proper hand washing protocol and self-quarantine however possible to prevent the further spread of the COVID-19 virus.

To help combat cabin fever among our crafters in this time of self-isolation, we would like to share a free simple pattern from Red Heart Yarns. Please follow this link to view the Daydream Hat pattern.

If you are a veteran or a dependent of a veteran and need our help, our office is still open and will do our best to aid you. Please feel free to reach out- even if you just need to talk in this dark time: (469) 427-9654. Please remember that we are here for you.

The Gainsville, FL Stand Down is Served!

We have sent 120 of our beautiful, handmade garments to the Gainsville, FL Stand Down being held on February 20th. Many thanks to our dedicated staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners!

Stand Down This Saturday!

We would like to thank the American Red Cross again for their continued support! We are so very grateful for all that they do for us! Their awesome donation of 40 exquisitely knit hats and 27 scarves will be deeply appreciated by our veterans and their dependents.

T.H.R.I.V.E. Association is going to take part in Operation Care’s Stand Down in Dallas this Saturday. We are still collecting goods to distribute to the over 700 veterans and their family members who are expected to attend. If you have donations that you would still like to turn in for this Saturday’s Stand Down, please call our Chief Officer, Victoria Walker (469) 427-9654 so that we can arrange for a pick up.

Remember Pearl Harbor

Please join us in a moment of silence as we remember the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. On Sunday, December 7, 1941, 2,403 military personnel and civilians lost their lives, and a further 1,178 were wounded as a result of this tragic event.

Let us never forget those who sacrificed for us.

Veteran’s Day and the Dallas Stand Down

Happy Veteran’s Day! Today we remember our nation’s brave veterans and their noble sacrifices. We at T.H.R.I.V.E. Association would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of those who have served. We are so grateful for all that you have done for our great nation.

The Dallas Stand Down was held this past November 7, and T.H.R.I.V.E. Association was able to pass out 339 hand made garments to our brave homeless veterans and their families.

Please remember that we still have several Stand Downs coming up and with Winter drawing nearer, we need hats, scarves, mittens, etc. to meet the needs of the veterans and their dependents who are scheduled to attend.

A Spooky Holiday and an Upcoming Stand Down

Happy Halloween! We are hard at work preparing for the upcoming Stand Down being held in Dallas, Texas on November 7th. With an estimated turn out of 400-500 homeless veterans (plus more for dependents), it is looking to be the largest Stand Down that we are serving all year! With that being said, we need you to send in any last donations that you are working on as soon as possible. We will weave in any loose ends and wet block all garments. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. We appreciate your continued support and wish you a positively frightful Halloween!
