The “Smitty” Hat Pattern

It’s time for another free hat pattern! This one is called the “Smitty”. The pattern is available free of charge on Ravelry here:

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/smitty

The “Smitty” knits up quite quickly and is perfect for anyone! A few notes – following the pattern as written, we found that it does require a little over one skein of yarn. We used Lion Brand Thick and Quick for this project. Also, so that the hat would have a tighter closure, we decided to continue the decrease rounds until we had 30 stitches left.

Make sure to sign up for Ravelry.com and join our Ravelry group here to find more patterns vetted by T.H.R.I.V.E. Association:

Again, we will be hosting our Friday Night Craft-a-thon this Friday, September 30th at Half Price Books. Be sure to come out and join us if you can!

Half Price Books at 5803 Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75231 on 09/30/16 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Hats Off to Free Hat Patterns!

It’s time for a free pattern! The hat showcased below was made using the following pattern:

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/erichs-af-knockoff-hat

(There is also a link to the pattern available on T.H.R.I.V.E. Association’s Ravelry page here.)

It is perfect for any skill level and can be easily resized by adding or subtracting from the called for cast on stitches. The pattern is very easy to follow and knits up very quickly! We made this particular hat by using Lion Brand’s Thick and Quick with size 15 circular needles. We altered the cast on stitches to 44 rather than 40 to better fit a large adult man.

For this week’s Craft-a-thon, we will be meeting again this Friday night at Half Priced Books located at this address:

Half Price Books at 5803 Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75231

Friday Craft-a-thon at Half Price Books

Firstly, just a quick line of thanks to Michael’s for hosting our last Craft-a-thon. We had a fantastic night with lots of fun and treats! Meeting Goals

As a special thanks to all of the hard work put forth by our dedicated volunteers, T.H.R.I.V.E. Association has fresh homemade vegan apple pie for our Dallas Chapter! Each week we strive to provide our local volunteers with homemade vegan goodies.

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out one of our volunteer forms here. Remember, it is not necessary that you know how to craft; if you are interested in learning, we would love to teach you at one of our weekly Craft-a-thons. Also, if you have a skill set that you’d like to donate, feel free to contact us here. We’d love to hear from you!

Last year, T.H.R.I.V.E. Association was able to provide 36 items to the Homeless Veterans Stand Down. We promised ourselves, and our community that we would continue to grow until the needs of every former service member was met. By continuing to recruit new, dedicated volunteers, we’re on our way towards reaching that goal. Way to go volunteers, we’re very proud of you!

On November 8, 2016, T.H.R.I.V.E. Association will distribute our collected handmade goods to the underprivileged military veterans. Please remember to send all wet blocked finished garments to our headquarters.

Friday Night Craft-a-thon

Our weekly craft-a-thon will currently be held every Friday at 7:00 pm at our Chief Officer’s address:

10019 Woodlake Dr., Dallas, TX 75243

As always, there will be homemade vegan treats for all attendees! Please let us know ahead of time if you plan on coming so that we can expect you; you can either leave a message with us on our ‘Contact Us’ page here or you can call or leave a text message with us at (214) 998-2770. We look forward to meeting and crafting with you!

If you are interested in coming to our meetings but do not yet know how to craft, have no fear! We will gladly teach you how to start. For example, just this past week, our Chief Officer, Victoria, met up with a new T.H.R.I.V.E. Assn. volunteer at a local Half-Price Books to personally teach her how to crochet. All who wish to craft are welcome at our craft-a-thons, so don’t be a stranger!

Mittens and Meetings

Firstly, this week’s vegan delight for our local volunteers and staff, is a homemade cherry pie. As every one of our fantastic volunteers continues to craft hats, scarves, etc., we would like to commend you all for your hard work and dedication to the cause!

As was stated in our last blog post, we have added more patterns to our repertoire. The mittens in the photo below were made using Red Heart’s pattern “Mittens for All” (WR2160), which is also posted on our Ravelry page.

http://www.ravelry.com/groups/thrive-dba-thrive-association

Our goal is to have as many mittens as we have hats. If you need help with these or other patterns, please feel free to contact us in the comments section below or on our Ravelry page.

Do you live in the DFW Metroplex and want to learn to knit, crochet, sew or just want to find out more about T.H.R.I.V.E. Association? We would love to meet our community and invite the T.H.R.I.V.E. family to join us for several upcoming events. We are currently looking to organize a Friday night craft-a-thon each Friday starting next Friday, August 12. Location and time to be announced soon. Stay tuned for more details!

Summertime Progress

First, in keeping with our tradition, it’s time to introduce this week’s vegan treat- blueberry muffins, made by our IT guy, Torrey! In preparation for several upcoming events, our Chief Officer taught our lawyer, David, to knit and Torrey crocheted his first hat solo! Way to go guys! Finally, it has been a fantastic week for T.H.R.I.V.E. Association! We have been able to welcome more volunteers! Thanks to all of you out there for volunteering and helping to spread the word about our Organization! We really couldn’t do all this without your support.
